2026–27 SEASON
2026–27 Season — Master Rules
THE COLLEGE SEARCH IS ON. These are the master rules for the 2026–27 Season. Join as a FAN to enter the network, discover music, judge BATTLES and help tell the story. Anybody can start a BAND entry; the BAND must complete registration and qualify before competing. BBOC publishes official BATTLE instructions, judging windows, FAN and HOST cutoffs, and prize details before those terms take effect.
1. Everyone joins the BBOC network as a FAN through BECOME A FAN and creates one member account. FANS can discover FAN CARDS and BAND CARDS, follow the music, share their stories and judge official BATTLES.
2. BBOC recognizes a person as a MUSICIAN while they are on a confirmed active BAND roster. They remain discoverable among FANS and also appear in MUSICIAN RANKINGS. Their personal points stay with the same account. Each member keeps their personal CARD and Feed; while active MUSICIAN status applies, that member’s FAN CARD is shown as a MUSICIAN CARD.
3. FANS may follow multiple BANDS and other FANS. A FAN does not need a college affiliation to join or judge.
4. FANS who play music or want to meet performers can explore FAN CARDS, BAND CARDS and MUSICIAN RANKINGS to find bandmates and connect with people across the network.
5. A performer cannot compete alone. An official BATTLE entry must come from an eligible BAND with at least two registered performers.
6. Every FAN has a FAN CARD and personal Feed for introductions, discoveries, campus life, videos, photos and conversation. FANS and MUSICIANS can use the UPLOAD HUB to share permitted personal footage through FAN TV and PLAYERS TV. Members may follow, react and comment. Original posts and footage published through the CARD posting tools also appear in BBOC NETWORK FEED, sharing the same reactions and comments.
7. Each registered BAND has a BAND CARD, Feed and roster Members. Active BAND members can manage the BAND CARD and share music, rehearsals, interviews, performances and updates. Each BAND may designate one nonperforming organizer to manage its CARD and invitations; the organizer does not count as a performer. BAND TV is for BAND uploads; members may watch, follow, react and comment.
8. The BATTLE FIELD is the official judging area. BBOC publishes approved BATTLE performances and instructions there. An ordinary Feed or channel upload is not an official BATTLE entry.
9. Posting to a personal Feed, BBOC channel or external social account does not replace submitting an official BATTLE performance through the BAND’s private setup and performance-upload path.
10. BANDS, FANS and emerging HOSTS can upload campus stories, interviews, rehearsals, performances and behind-the-scenes footage. BBOC may select and edit permitted footage for channel features, highlight reels, BBOC TV and the final movie; an upload does not guarantee selection. The author may also share permitted footage on social media with a BBOC post or CARD link and, when seeking FAN referral credit, their personal invitation link. Outside views, reactions, comments and shares do not earn BBOC engagement points. Eligible verified activity inside BBOC does; a direct video link alone does not identify who referred a new FAN.
11. Personal FAN and MUSICIAN points, HOST activity rankings, BAND discovery points and certified BAND BATTLE scores are distinct measures. BAND discovery points never add to judged performance scores. BBOC LEADERBOARDS groups MUSICIAN RANKINGS, HOST WITH THE MOST, TOP FAN, BBOC 2002 BAND STANDINGS and the 2026–27 BAND STANDINGS. The 2002 competition has separate standings.
12. The BAND discovery-point scoring window runs from October 12 through December 31, 2026, Pacific time. BBOC certifies eligible totals at the published cutoffs used for tie-breaking.
13. Eligible FANS earn personal points beginning October 12, 2026 and until the published Final Eight FAN cutoff.
14. BAND STANDINGS shows certified BATTLE results and progress toward Las Vegas. Followers and BAND discovery activity help people find BANDS. Discovery points do not purchase advancement; certified discovery points can break exact ties under Rule 28.
15. BBOC reconciles feed engagement and running totals daily. A displayed number may lag, change when activity is deleted or disqualified, or change after review.
16. BBOC certifies official results and prize rankings after checking eligibility and suspicious activity.
17. Each distinct eligible verified FAN currently following an eligible BAND adds 1 BAND discovery point. That point is removed if the follow ends or becomes ineligible.
18. An active roster member’s follow of their own BAND does not add a BAND discovery point.
19. A FAN may support several BANDS; one valid follow can add 1 discovery point to each eligible BAND followed.
20. A BAND earns 1 discovery point for each distinct eligible verified member who reacts to one of its eligible BAND Feed posts.
21. A BAND earns 2 discovery points for the first comment from each distinct eligible verified member on one of its eligible BAND Feed posts.
22. The same member may contribute both a reaction point and comment points to the same BAND post. Repeating reactions or comments on that post adds no further discovery points.
23. The post’s author and the BAND’s active roster members cannot add engagement points to their own BAND.
24. Permitted BAND videos, performance clips, rehearsal clips and updates use the same discovery engagement rules. Publishing a BAND post or upload does not itself earn a flat BAND discovery award.
25. If a BAND refers a different BAND through its attributable invitation and that new BAND completes a verified official paid entry, the referring BAND receives 50 discovery points after review. One qualifying entry credits one referring BAND.
26. A referral earns no points if the entry is invalid or refunded, or if the referral is ineligible or cannot be attributed.
27. Removed posts, deleted reactions or comments, duplicate accounts, ineligible accounts, and manipulated engagement do not count.
28. BAND discovery points do not change a judged BATTLE score, judging weight or the Finals scoring formula. If BANDS tie on an official BATTLE result, season standing, Finals qualification position or Finals result, the BAND with the most certified discovery points at that result’s published cutoff wins the tie. BBOC publishes the cutoff and certifies the eligible totals. If BANDS remain tied on both measures, BBOC applies a further tie procedure published before the affected result is decided.
29. A FAN may publish permitted posts and videos on their personal Feed and use the UPLOAD HUB to share their story. The first successful eligible personal video upload each Pacific day earns 20 points; the daily upload bonus is awarded once. Other posts receive no automatic posting award. Eligible reactions and comments can earn the author personal points. Each distinct participant release BBOC reviews and accepts earns 25 points; attachments are optional, and duplicates or repeat approvals earn no extra release points.
30. A FAN earns 1 personal point for each distinct eligible verified member who reacts to that FAN’s eligible personal Feed post or video.
31. A FAN earns 2 personal points for the first comment from each distinct eligible verified member on that FAN’s eligible personal Feed post or video.
32. The same member may contribute both on one FAN post. Repeat reactions or comments on that post earn no additional points.
33. The FAN who authored a post cannot earn engagement points from their own reaction or comment.
34. Sharing a FAN video or post outside BBOC can bring people to it, but the share itself adds no points. Eligible verified reactions and comments on the BBOC post can add points after those people join and engage.
35. Each distinct active verified member following a FAN’s personal BBOC profile adds 1 personal point while the follow remains eligible. An eligible follow recorded while the profile is a MUSICIAN carries the published 2-point weight. Points are removed when a follow ends or becomes ineligible.
36. Clicking Follow earns the person who clicked no personal point. Following an eligible BAND supports its discovery total under Rule 17.
37. A valid official battle scorecard earns the judging FAN 10 personal points.
38. Five valid scorecards in one season week earn a 25-point weekly bonus; ten valid scorecards in the same week earn a 50-point weekly bonus.
39. A new FAN who joins through a personal invitation link and verifies BBOC membership earns the inviting FAN 25 personal points, once per qualifying new member. Include that personal invitation link when promoting a video if you want join credit; merely sharing the video’s direct link is not a tracked FAN referral.
40. A BAND nominated by a FAN that completes qualifying official registration earns the credited nominating FAN 100 personal points.
41. Removed posts, deleted reactions or comments, duplicate accounts, invalid scorecards, and fraudulent or ineligible activity do not count.
42. An active competing BAND member is excluded from the FAN ranking and FAN prizes while on that BAND’s roster. Their personal FAN points and profile followers never transfer to the BAND’s score.
43. Personal points never increase the value of a FAN’s judging scorecard. FANS who upload stories may appear as aspiring HOSTS in HOST WITH THE MOST. When BBOC publishes their footage, they can be recognized as HOSTS. Published highlights, channel programming and the final movie earn 1 HOST usage point per second of credited footage used. There are no points per view; untimed credits earn no usage points until BBOC records their duration. FANS and MUSICIANS can also be HOSTS.
44. The top ten eligible FANS on the certified TOP FAN ranking at the published cutoff receive front-row tickets to the BBOC Finals in Las Vegas. Guest allotments, travel and other prize conditions require published prize terms; no additional benefit is promised here. The winning HOST will host or cohost the two-night BBOC Finals featuring the eight finalists in Las Vegas, under the published eligibility and prize terms.
45. BBOC may publish a weekly Chance Card with one shared theme and separate BAND and FAN missions.
46. BBOC publishes a card’s dates, format, and instructions before its week begins.
47. A Chance Card response follows the ordinary personal or BAND Feed scoring rules. Merely answering the prompt adds no special Chance Card bonus. Any otherwise eligible upload or engagement award follows its normal rules.
48. A Chance Card post is not an official battle entry unless that battle’s published packet explicitly makes it one.
49. ENTER A BAND starts a separate $100 one-time competition entry. Anybody can pay to get it started. After payment, BBOC emails a private claim link to the payer, who may use it or share it with a BAND member or organizer. The BAND completes setup and performer invitations. Every participating performer needs their own BBOC account before competing. Payment starts the entry; it does not establish eligibility or purchase points, favorable judging or advancement.
50. The BAND entry and payment deadline is January 24, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. A BAND must still complete 12 official BATTLES to qualify for the Finals.
51. A competing BAND has at least two registered performers and represents one primary accredited U.S. college or university.
52. At least one performing member must be enrolled at that primary college or university on the BAND’s competition entry date. BBOC checks evidence privately before Final Eight advancement, or at an earlier published qualifying checkpoint.
53. A performer may appear on only one active competing BAND roster at a time. No professional ringers.
54. A performer under 18 needs the required consent of a parent or legal guardian.
55. The BAND completes its BAND CARD, connects every performer through the organizer’s invitations, and keeps its roster, primary campus, rights confirmations and readiness information accurate. Submit an introduction explaining why you believe you are the Best Band On Campus: introduce the members, campus and sound, and share its video link on your BAND CARD. This introduction tells the BAND’s story and is separate from the official judged BATTLE performance. BBOC may select permitted journey footage for BBOC TV and the final movie.
56. BANDS follow the published roster lock and replacement procedure. The season replacement cutoff is February 28, 2027; any further conditions must be published before they apply.
57. BECOME A FAN includes a FAN CARD, personal Feed, discovery, following and official judging, subject to the rules. FAN+ is an optional $5/month supporter membership that helps fund BBOC and put on the show. The FAN+ badge identifies supporters. FAN+ does not add extra features or change competition points, judging influence, rankings or advancement. Members can choose not to pay, or cancel future monthly renewals in Personal Settings > Plans and Access, and keep normal FAN CARD and network access.
58. The 2026–27 Season opens October 12, 2026. The first official BATTLE begins Saturday, October 17, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific. There are no weekly eliminations.
59. BAND submissions are due each Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Pacific. BBOC reviews eligible videos before the next BATTLE FIELD opens Saturday at 9:00 a.m. FAN judging runs from Saturday at 9:00 a.m. until the following Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Pacific. BBOC targets Saturday at 6:00 a.m. to publish certified BAND standings, three hours before the next BATTLE begins. BBOC will announce any schedule exception before it takes effect.
60. Once BBOC approves the BAND and its required roster setup, submit the original-song performance through the official performance-upload link in the BAND’s private setup page by Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Pacific for that BATTLE. Check the submission status. A BAND introduction, Feed post or channel video does not count as its judged entry. BBOC may reject a video that fails the published requirements.
61. Verified FANS can discover and follow BANDS through BAND CARDS, open official judging from BAND pages, or use the randomized BATTLE FIELD queue. A FAN may judge multiple BANDS during the published judging window.
62. Only one valid scorecard per FAN per BAND per battle counts.
63. Each scorecard rates Song Impact, Performance Execution, Originality & Identity, Stage Presence, and Would You Follow This BAND?, each on a 1–10 scale. BBOC verifies scorecards and reviews suspicious activity before results are certified.
64. BBOC checks eligibility, playback, duplicate accounts, manipulation, and scorecards before certifying battle results. Provisional numbers can change.
65. The season has 28 scheduled weekly BATTLES. The final BAND submission deadline is April 22, 2027, at 3:00 p.m. Pacific. The final BATTLE opens April 24, and FAN judging closes April 29 at 3:00 p.m. Pacific. A BAND must complete at least 12 official BATTLES; its best 10 certified scores count toward qualification.
66. After certifying scores, eligibility and readiness, BBOC advances eight BANDS to college music’s National Championship in Las Vegas for a two-night concert. Eight perform on Night 1; four advance to Night 2. Exact qualification ties follow Rule 28.
67. At the live Finals, the result uses 30% audience/FAN response and 70% professional judges. Exact ties follow Rule 28. BBOC certifies the national champion. The winning BAND receives a recording session and a music video, with the opportunity to be considered for a recording contract. A recording contract is not guaranteed.
68. A finalist must respond to official readiness or advancement contact within 72 hours under the published instructions.
69. Withdrawal, ineligibility, missed deadlines, lack of readiness, or nonresponse may result in a Standby Pool replacement under the published qualification order. A displayed leaderboard position alone creates no Finals or prize entitlement.
70. Racism, antisemitism, other identity-based hate, threats, harassment, and sexually explicit content are prohibited in posts, videos, comments, messages, and profiles.
71. Members must have the necessary rights and participant consent for the music and footage they post or submit. Complete the required video-permission confirmation before uploading. Only share footage and music you have permission to use; BBOC’s selection and editing of footage follows the accepted participation and upload terms.
72. Impersonation, bots, duplicate accounts, fabricated follows or scorecards, coordinated fraudulent judging, and manipulated points are prohibited.
73. Members may report prohibited content or behavior. BBOC reviews reports; a report alone does not establish a violation.
74. BBOC promptly removes confirmed prohibited content and suspends the responsible account. Serious confirmed violations may result in permanent removal from the network and competition.
75. When participation becomes ineligible, BBOC may reverse affected follows, engagement, referrals, scorecards, and totals before certifying results.
